Jamey Morgan
Benjamin John “Jamey” Morgan is a freelance trombonist and music educator hailing from Boulder, Colorado. A versatile musician, Morgan is an active freelance performer on alto, tenor, and bass trombones. Morgan has worked with several chamber music groups in Detroit and Lansing, and has performed with the Holland Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphony, Brass Band of Battle Creek, Midland Symphony, Alma Symphony, Saginaw Bay Symphony, Flint Symphony, and Lansing Symphony.
Morgan holds degrees from the University of Colorado Boulder (BM, 2016) and Michigan State University (MM, 2019), as well as a Professional Performance Certificate from Penn State University (2017). He is currently a doctoral candidate at Michigan State, and expects to complete his studies in Fall 2021. His teachers include Dr. William Stanley, Mark Lusk, and Ava Ordman.
Morgan has been a participant at the Cleveland Trombone Seminar (2017 and 2018), the Third Coast Trombone Retreat (2018), and the Round Top Festival Institute (2019). He has performed in master classes and taken lessons with many world-renowned trombonists, including Ian Bousfield, Colin Williams, Brian Hecht, R. Douglas Wright, Randall Hawes, Nitzan Haroz, Don Lucas, Nick Schwartz, Sebastian Vera, Denson Paul Pollard, John Kitzman, Brent Phillips, lee Rogers, Craig Mulcahy, James Box, Steve Lange, Matt Vaughn, Shachar Israel, Rick Stout, and Weston Sprott.
Morgan was a finalist and co-winner of two International Trombone Association solo competitions in 2020: the Frank Smith Tenor Trombone Competition and the ITA Alto Trombone Competition. He was also a member of the inaugural Big 10 Honors Trombone Choir at the 2018 International Trombone Festival at the University of Iowa.
Morgan performs primarily on a Bach LT42BOFG tenor trombone, and can also be heard on a Yamaha YSL-621 alto trombone, a King 2B Liberty small-bore tenor trombone, and a Getzen 4147IB tenor trombone.
